Underworld: Evolution review
Jan. 28th, 2006 08:26 pmToday I went to see "Underworld: Evolution". It, put simply, kicked ass.
I enjoyed the first "Underworld". Didn't love it, just enjoyed it. Liked the concept, but not enough to buy the movie. I am strongly tempted to buy this one when it comes out. Which means I would have to get the first one, because you have to see the first to understand the second. Anyway, the first movie was good, this one was great. It took the complication of the plot and added to it, twisted it around, and involved a shirtless and slightly angsty (angst! squee!) Michael throughout almost the entire movie. One of the parts was very sad, but other than that, a satisfying film.
It is definitely worth being rated R, however. No, not for the gore, though there is some of it. Enough gore, I suppose, to merit a bare R on its own. No, rather, it is rated R for the sex. There are two sex scenes, though the second is more like a "foreplay" scene than a sex scene. They are both very, very explicit sex scenes. I'm not quite certain how they managed to do the first one without actually having the actors have sex, though if I get creative I can think of ways they could have and probably did manage it. The second scene shows boobs and, thus, is instantly rated R in the U.S. of A.
This movie provided a lot of eye candy for both the guys and girls, and I'm not just talking the cool special effects and gunfight scenes. For the guys, Selene spent the whole movie in a skintight black leather suit, except for the time she spent out of it. And there were also a couple shots of some other girls in skimpy underwear and no underwear. For the girls, we got a real treat. We got to see almost every major in-shape male character, except for the old-looking ones, shirtless. Throughout the whole movie. Especially Michael, who is quite nice to look at.
I noticed in the movie some entirely unintentional parallels with Hellsing. Michael leaving the bag of blood behind was almost exactly like Victoria in the Hellsing anime, right down to the *stare* *ponder* *look about to drink it* *leaves*, not to mention the weakness-causing. There was another parallel, but I shall not spoil!!!
