Research *gah*
Aug. 2nd, 2006 12:28 pmThis Robin Hobb book's incidentally whacking me over the head with several lessons that I need to learn. For one, the importance of good research, especially for a book. I don't know shit about ships, or sailing, or anything, and this book is like "I am the mastaa of all sailing knowledge. You can't even tell if I'm wrong on anything because you know NOTHING, foo'."
Well, okay, that's how I feel when I read it, at least *sweatdrop* 'cause the author more or less seems to have shipping and sailing knowledge down.
Okay, so, listness. Stuff I need to research:
-the history of piracy (like I haven't researched my ass off...), especially towards the end of the Golden Age of Piracy (since that's when "Morbus" takes place)
-colonial clothing, laws, and customs, especially in the Caribbean and especially between the years 1692 and 1730
-ships, especially merchant ships from the early to mid 1700s
-sailing
-Nassau Port
Oh, well. At least I lucked out with a recorded History channel special that gives me all weaponry knowledge and fencing experience for sword fights. Ne?
