The Illusionist
Jan. 28th, 2007 12:42 amWas going to make a big, dramatic review of "The Illusionist" (yay movies), but I'll be lazy. Basically, good movie, nice use of colors and tones and all that fancy-schmancy camera-type stuff. The ending should by no right have surprised me, but the supremely straightforward-looking way the movie's story is told made it do so.
The only complaint I have about it is that the mid-movie sex scene is really, really, really random. I mean, dude, I'm all for sex scenes that progress plot and characterization (AAoB is mostly composed of said sex scenes), but... this one didn't. Like, at all. It was just like "Oh, you know, since we're in love, why don't we just throw ourselves at each other for no apparent reason so the viewers can see a bit of artistic-looking skin".
But yes, loooved the suspension of disbelief and the way it almost seemed like a fairy tale, and also greatly enjoyed the way the ending wrapped it all up and tied the loose ends.
